Our Story

This legacy is not nostalgia.
It is a standard.

Some families pass down land.
Some pass down skills.
Ours passed down work.

The Lord family story begins in 1920 with Lord’s General Store in Hermon, Maine. Built on trust, honest goods, and the belief that a person’s word still mattered, it served as a cornerstone for the community.

As the years passed, the work continued.

The family later moved south to Clearwater, Florida, where those same values took shape as Lord Motors. Though the trade changed, the commitment remained the same: skilled hands, fair dealing, and service rooted in integrity.

Eventually, the road led us to Morris Chapel, Tennessee, where the legacy continues today through several family-run endeavors:
• Lord’s Soap & Skin
• Lord’s Handmade Signs
• Lord’s Garage & Mobile Mechanic

Each reflects the same conviction we’ve carried for over a century: do honest work, use honest materials, and serve people well.

Lord’s Soap & Skin was born out of that tradition. We create simple, time-tested products made by hand with carefully chosen ingredients. No shortcuts. No exaggerated claims. Just craftsmanship meant to serve real people with real needs.

What We Believe

Soap doesn’t need to be complicated.

For generations, it was made with:

  • fats
  • lye
  • time

And it worked.

That’s still our approach today.

Why We Make It This Way

We’re not chasing trends.

We’re not trying to impress shelves.

We’re making soap we would use in our own home.

For our hands.

For our skin.

For everyday life.

If it doesn’t hold up there, it doesn’t get made.

What Makes Our Soap Different

  • Tallow-based (works with your skin, not against it)
  • Small batch (because quality doesn’t scale well)
  • No synthetic fragrance
  • No fillers or unnecessary extras
  • Slow cured the way traditional soap was meant to be

About Our Family

We’re not influencers.

We’re a working family building something honest.

Some days that looks like:

  • soap curing on racks
  • labels getting printed late
  • figuring things out as we go

But it also means:

Everything we make is real. And we stand behind it.”

What We Make

(And Why It Still Works)

There’s a reason some things don’t need reinventing.

For most of history, soap wasn’t a product line. It was a necessity. It was made simply. Used daily. And trusted without question.

Somewhere along the way, that changed.

Soap became complicated.

Ingredients multiplied. Labels got longer.

So we went back to what worked. Back to tradition. Back to simple, time-tested formulations.

Learn Why Tallow Is Coming Back

More people are starting to ask the same questions we did:

  • Why does my skin feel dry after washing?
  • Why are there so many ingredients in something so basic?
  • What actually makes a good bar of soap?

And many are rediscovering what was never really lost.

A Simple Promise

If it’s not good enough for our home, it’s not good enough for yours.

Try It Yourself

You don’t need to take our word for it.

Start simple.

Start with a bar you’ll actually want to use every day.

This works. And we stand behind it. No shortcuts. No guesswork.

We are Christian makers, and our faith quietly informs everything we do. Stewardship matters. Integrity matters. And how we treat people matters.

Since 1920, the Lord family tradition continues providing honest value by Christian makers.
